The History of Imhoff Farm
Located on the Cape Point route Imhoff Farm is a charming old-world, original and tranquil venue offering outdoor adventures and interesting unique shops. It is popular with families and groups and a one-stop destination. The present owners (since 1912) the Van der Horst family are committed to maintaining a country farm atmosphere and providing an excellent one stop venue for visitors to the area.
The land on which Imoff Farm stands was originally granted in 1743 to widow Christina Diemer by Baron Gustaff von Imhoff, Commissioner Extraordinaire of the Dutch East India Company. The grant was known as Imhoff’s Gift and was on the condition that vegetables grown at the farm were to be supplied to the Company ships lying anchorage in Simonstown at a fixed price.
The original homestead and barns – including the stables, silo, smithy and slave quarters – now house the Blue Water Cafe and a variety of unique shops. There is a children’s play park, Milkwood Maze and Higgeldy Piggeldy Farm Yard and once Covid-19 regulations allow the reopening of facilities, the Farmyard Zoo will again offer guests an opportunity to interact with the chickens, geese, ducks, springbuck and other animals.
